Volunteers Needed

If you like working with animals, or just like animals and are looking for volunteer work, Service Dogs of Virginia has just the volunteer opportunity for you. No matter how much experience you have –becoming a Puppy Raiser or Nights/Weekends Volunteer are fantastic ways to get involved. You can help us unite people with service dogs so they can lead a more independence life.

Every assistance dog starts as a puppy that needs a loving home. You can raise a dog and change a life. Volunteer puppy raisers provide SDV puppies a safe home, take them to weekly puppy class, provide socialization opportunities and give lots of love.

After graduating from puppy class, service dogs begin their advanced training. Nights and Weekends Volunteers are needed to house the service dog at night and on weekends as well as drop the dog off at “school” during the week. Nights and Weekends Volunteers nights provide a home environment that ensures our dogs get the socialization they need, like visits to the grocery store, movie theaters, the mall, restaurants, and other typical household activities.
