Meet and Greet 2022
If you weren’t available to attend our graduation on November 12 - no worries. Starting December 1, we will posting videos from clients and volunteers every Tuesday and Thursday until December 22. Check back here or on our social media pages to hear from our clients on how their service dogs have changed their lives and from our volunteers on why they volunteer with SDV. Your support helps us place the wonderful dogs to deserving people at no cost and we thank you!
Meet Puppy Raiser Barbara:
Barbara started as a dog walker and respite volunteer and is now a puppy raiser. Hear Barbara talk about puppy raising with SDV.
Meet Puppy Raiser Beth:
Beth is a two time puppy raiser for SDV. Her first pup Tulley is now working as an Autism Service Dog and her latest puppy Holly will start her advanced training in early 2023. Listen to Beth tell why she volunteers with SDV.
Meet Kristine and Grady:
Physical Assistance Service Dog Grady has been by Kristine's side since 2015. Hear how Grady helps Kristine live a full independent life.
Meet Heather, Addison and Jams:
Jams is a sunny and adorable dog who loves children. She took to medical alert training straight away and to her partner, Addie, a young girl with type 1 diabetes. Addie’s family lives quite a distance from a hospital so Jams is the early warning system that Addie needs to prevent a crisis. Addie lives a very active life and Jams is right there with her at soccer games and family outings. Addie’s mom says: “We were at the zoo, and she pulled away from my husband to go straight to Addie to alert her that her sugar had quickly dropped almost 30 points."
Meet Allie and Emily and their Facility Dogs, Chaya and William:
Allie and Emily are counselors at ReadyKids, a non-profit that provides counseling, family support and early learning opportunities. In March 2020, Emily received Facility Dog William from SDV. William became an integral part of Emily’s counseling sessions and soon found himself in high demand. So in 2021, Allie applied for another facility dog to work at ReadyKids and received Chaya this past summer. Hear how Chaya and William have made an impact at ReadyKids by clicking on the video below.
Meet the Guillen Family and Tulley:
Tulley is very smart, social, and happily excited by everything! She adores people and wants to be the life of the party. Great with children, she was an obvious candidate for autism work. She is placed with Lucas, a young boy on the autism spectrum. Lucas and his family of four are on the go and Tulley helps Lucas handle complex environments where he might feel overwhelmed. She reduces his anxiety with deep pressure hugs, by helping him sleep through the night, and by being a joyous, loyal companion who is always by his side. Lucas’ parents say: “When Lucas recently had to get a haircut, he had a meltdown and Tulley calmed him down."
