what it is
Art Unleashed is a delightful public art display and auction bringing together artists, dog lovers, philanthropists, and the community to help Service Dogs of Virginia (SDV) build a permanent home.
The mission of Art Unleashed is to unite art, community, and purpose in support of SDV’s life-changing work. Through the transformation of plain fiberglass dog statues into vibrant works of art by talented local artists, this campaign will showcase the power of creativity while raising critical funds to help build a new campus for SDV. Each statue represents a step forward in our mission to train and place service dogs with individuals living with disabilities—empowering independence, dignity, and connection.
how it works
SDV will commission local artists to paint one of 20 life-sized, fiberglass Labrador dog statues. Each statue will provide a platform for storytelling, creative expression, and foster a sense of place and belonging throughout the community.
After securing sponsorship from individuals and local businesses, each statue will be displayed in front of the sponsor’s business or along the sidewalks and street corners of the community for public display from July 2026 to October 2026. They will then be sold at an auction in Charlottesville on October 24, 2026. All proceeds from the sale will go toward helping SDV build our new facility, allowing us to double the number of service dogs we place annually.
