Released Dogs

On occasion, we make the difficult decision to “release” a dog from our program. For one or more of a variety of reasons, we determine that it is in our, but primarily the dog’s, best interest that he or she not continue on the path to become a service dog. This may be for a behavioral or medical reason, or because he or she appears to lack the necessary temperament to withstand the rigors of day-to-day life as a service dog.

Sometimes our dogs need a home.Nevertheless, released dogs will all have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, house-trained, and schooled in basic manners. Many will have received some level of advanced training.

Thus, we are very particular regarding who we select to receive a released dog. There is also a placement fee of $1,000 that helps defray some of the costs we have already incurred in purchasing, vetting, and training the dog.

If you are interested in being considered to receive a released dog, please complete the following application and submit it to SDV. If and when a dog becomes available, we will contact you.

Thank you for your interest in helping a great dog find a great home!

Sadie:

This is Sadie - a very sweet, funny and affectionate kitten who is staying with SDV while she recuperates from a little kitty cat cold.  She has made a full recovery and is ready to leave! She is about 3 months old, and a super soft, petite white kitten.  Sadie can hang with the dogs, but lets them know if they are getting a little too close. She lets Cousteau, our super-sweet SPCA service dog in training, sniff her and lick her, but insists he keep it quick. Sadie is very, very snuggly, comes when called and is learning to “leave it” and “lie down” with a little help from some snacks. She LOVES all types of food, and thinks she needs to try everything.

Sadie is ready to find her forever home and would be a great addition to any family—dogs, cats, kids – she seems okay with everything and everybody. She is a little shy at first but warms up quickly. Please contact gail@servicedogsva.org if you are interested in meeting Sadie.

Please go to CASPCA and complete an adoption application.
